Next At The Museum!

The next meeting of the gem and mineral society will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 6 PM.

Note: this is the fourth Wednesday not the usual third Wednesday meeting night, because of the speaker’s schedule.

Australia Night at the Museum From 6 to 7 PM we will have light refreshments (snacks and dessert) with a taste of Australian wine. Everyone is welcome. Program starting at 7: “Australian Minerals in the John Weber Collection” by Dehne McLaughlin. Dehne is from Hobart, Tasmania and is a mineral collector and miner with a background in geology, biology and anthropology and he consults to Aboriginal groups in mining economics, indigenous resource negotiations and mine environmental management. He has been selling minerals at the Tucson show for many years and John Weber bought a few each year. John’s family donated his collection to the Pinal Geology Museum and his best Australian minerals are on exhibit. Come see the specimens and learn about where they came from and how they were found.

The Pinal Geology & Mineral Museum officially opened its doors in the Artisan Village of Coolidge in 2016. The museum honors the mining and mineral heritage of Arizona that has been part of the cultural fabric for centuries. Our displays and permanent collection of Arizona Minerals complements changing exhibits on a variety of earth science subjects.

The Pinal Geology & Mineral Museum boasts a growing collection of exhibits both on-loan and permanent display that tells the story of the earth and its riches especially for Arizona. Numerous people have provided their personal collections to the Museum so people and especially our youth can view the gifts of the earth and show them not only the beauty of the natural world but also excite them to pursue a career in the earth sciences. The permanent collection is geared to provide a significant learning experience permanent collections.
